Stream: Toro y Moi’s Causers of This
- story Sam Hockley-Smith
This one time we played Toro y Moi on the radio and the sound dude came rushing in and was like, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE LEVELS? We didn’t really know how to respond because, yeah, Toro y Moi’s music fades in and out like it’s broken—just as vocal snippets appear, the bass rises, the cymbals hiss together and everything sounds super compressed. It’s imperfect headphone music made from intuition and feeling, and maybe too lo-fi in a bunch of weird ways to play anywhere else but streaming directly into your brain. Also, for a whole different vibe you can click one to the left and listen to The Soft Pack’s awesome new self-titled record.

It’s sidechaining.
All the cool kids use it (charles hamilton kills it. in a good way.)
