Video: The Morning Benders with the Big Echo Orchestra, “Excuses”

A lot of bands are in an adolescent stage right now. We don't say that disparagingly, it's just that a lot of dudes are figuring themselves out in public. But five years from now, what kind of album will Girls release? When is Wavves going to record a truly cohesive album? Probably pretty soon. Growing up happens, and with that comes perspective, maybe a slight loss of enthusiasm, and a tendency to burrow into massive projects just because it seems like the right direction to go—and it often is. An interesting glimpse of that comes in the form of Yourstru.ly's video for The Morning Benders' "Excuses," performed with a grip of people calling themselves The Big Echo Orchestra (including Chris Owens of Girls, and somewhere between three and 200 drummers). They made it partly as a way come to grips with loving Phil Spector's wall of sound technique while trying to separate it from the man himself. What came out was a remarkably assured, carefully composed piece.
