Video: Soulja Boy, “All Black Everything”

At first this comes off as Soulja Boy following his own formula for the millionth time. Minimal beat, sped-up verse near the end to remind us that he can rap—or is at least working on it—but then that noise comes in that sounds like a million video arcade games all in sync at once. Doesn’t even matter what Soulja Boy is talking about (“black and white mix man, I’m feeling like Obama”) when you’ve got that sound. Soulja Boy continues to be exciting. Nothing happens in this video.

“to remind us that he can rap”

I really like the fader. I really do. But I swear you guys know nothing about rapping. I can’t get mad at you guys for liking most of the rappers you guys ride for, but for fuck’s sake…whatever. I’ll just ignore the rap posts.

“to remind us that he can rap—or is at least working on it—” was the actual quote.

Also: Would this track benefit from someone getting all lyrically lyrical all over the beat? Soulja Boy is not a great rapper, but he is very good at using what he has to make his songs into hits, which is perfectly fine with me.

  4. Delgado says:

There was one joint that SB did where he was trying out a different kind of flow, and for a few seconds he didn’t sound like complete shit, so yes, he’s improving, but considering where he’s coming from, he has but room for improvement.

Also: I’m not expecting him to get on Aesop Rock levels of complexity, but his flow is horrible. I mean, horrible. Guys like T.I., Jeezy(at times), and Gucci(ditto) are by no means lyrical, but their flows are good enough to carry their music. SB just doesn’t have that. Hell, even Shawty Lo, who isn’t much better then SB, still has the ability to put together a sing songy flow that can be fun to listen to when you’re riding in the car and not giving a fuck. SB has a looooot of work to do.

Im gonna laugh when in three years when everyone realizes that Soulja Boy is on-point. The dude’s still young, but he knows he needs to get better and he’s got wit.
