Blk Jks, “Zol” MP3

Blk Jks, cover stars of our March 2008 Africa issue, are playing the opening of the World Cup in South Africa in early June. Two years and three months is all it takes, folks. We're proud of them, and even more excited they'll have some new music just before, courtesy of an EP on Secretly Canadian. "Zol," the first track from that release, is a prog-meets-folk chant number, the hyperactive jam band guitar now replaced with something warmer, more juju. But they've upped the number of voices, a large crew yodeling over and with each other with the backing of a light drum machine. We're into all the changes, just hope this doesn't mean we won't be able to watch Tshepang range on his kit with his dreads in the air next time we see them play. Or at least when we watch them on TV come soccer season.
