55DSL Foosball Mania, Not to be Confused with Football Mania

June 15, 2010

With World Cup madness currently approaching a fever pitch, the time has never been more ripe for a friendly game of foosball. Soccer’s table-top cousin may be the stuff of frat house rumpus rooms stateside, but the sport has always had a far more fervent following in countries where the term football has nothing to do with pigskin and shoulder pads. Case in point: this past weekend, we were lucky enough to attend the championship tournament of 55DSL x Panini’s Galactic Battle of Foosball held in breath-taking Bassano del Grappa, Italy. The finals saw teams from the USA, UK, France, Colombia, Japan, Greece and Italy face off for an out-of-this world grand prize: a trip, accompanied by 55DSL’s creative director Andrea Rosso, to South Africa. Though the competition was stiff, in the end the Italian team, buoyed by their home field advantage, beat out team USA in a narrow victory to take home the trophy. Thankfully, no riots ensued. Check out more photos of the action after the jump, and click through to 55DSL’s newly launched e-commerce site to nab one of the limited edition celebrative tees.
