Last night we stayed up late watching about 300 live clips of Cathy Dennis, submerging ourselves in the exuberant energy of early '90s house music. Today, Oakland singer Alexis provides an answer to our longing with a nigh-perfect heartbreak gem that has us imagining ourselves in Doc Martens and crushed-velvet catsuits, doing over-exaggerated arm dances at Limelight before it was a minimall. Which is not to say "Lonely Sea" is overly nostalgic—with beats by Nick Weiss from Teengirl Fantasy, Alexis' wispy voice dresses classic house with the accoutrements of contemporary pop.
