Premiere: Donnis, “Tha Kill” MP3

June 21, 2010

Every rapper is so depressed right now—with Drake leading the charge (success-depressed), Kid Cudi the emotional mastermind (booze/weed-depressed) and now Donnis, poor dude. "Tha Kill," over a sample of LaRoux's ubiquitous hit single, is the natural inverse of Drizzy's "Over," in which Donnis laments his total lack of friends yet administers ice-cold, shut-down brags, counterparts to Drake's heartfelt bewilderment. One explanation for all the sorrowful rap pathos is just that it's popular right now, which is true (chicken or egg, though?), but hopefully means these dudes will be name-dropping big-brand anti-depressants on their autumn records. (Wait, did Drake do that yet?) Until then, get sad with Donnis on the new mixtape he's dropping tomorrow, Fashionably Late.
