Will Oldham is in a Sad Looking Movie Called New Jerusalem

June 28, 2010

Although it's no secret that Will Oldham has had a long and varied acting career (Trapped in the Closet!, That one official Kanye parody with Zach Galifianakis! Old Joy!), New Jerusalem (dir. by R. Alverson) looks like it might match the somber vibes of much of his music, without actually being about his music in any way, shape or form (just like Old Joy!). The film—also starring Colm O'Leary—tracks a character named Sean's (O'Leary) return from a tour of duty in Afghanistan where he "befriends Ike (Will Oldham), a strong willed evangelical, who endeavors to ensure his salvation. Inundated by a relentless fragility, Sean is confronted by a choice between the temptation of certainty and the chaos of the world around him." Kind of vague, but based on the trailer there'll probably be a lot of heavy soul searching and beautiful if heartbreaking shots of small town malaise.
