Somewhere in the middle of Warpaint's set at Lollapalooza, guitarist Emily Kokal said to the large crowd, "Look at that dragonfly," and everyone did, a bit of obedient, collective mysticism from everyone from the mega-hippies to the Bud crushers. We all had a similar gaze at the group who weave a sinister spiral out of interlocking guitar and bass, finding that somehow round holes and square pegs do fit, that shapes don't exist and everything is wonderfully liquid. We talked to them about laughing and their upcoming debut album on Rough Trade.
