Pamela Love’s Magical Milagros for Fall 2010

For jewelry designer Pamela Love's stunning fall collection, she branched out from the claws and bird skulls for which she's known and dug into the spirit of el Dia de los Muertos, borrowing the traditional papel picado style of Mexican papercutting to carve lattice and calaveras, or skulls, into heavy but intricate bronze breastplates. Inspired by recent trips to Mexico and the American Southwest, Love also borrowed from the tradition of milagros, small metal charms offered up to saints in thanks or prayer, with a beauty and care that both respects tradition and recognizes them as works of art. Her heart locket, in particular, is a thing to behold—intricate and painstaking, even Gray would have to commend her eye for anatomy. Love will find out if she won a well-deserved CFDA award on November 15—two weeks after the Day of the Dead. More images after the jump. (via Blogue, photos via Bona Drag)
