Oh man, Kanye West totally Imogen Heap‘d this one. Wonder if he’s seen that video of Drake’s DeGrassi character getting shot to The OC song? Classic. This version of the track has a wildly unnecessary amount of tags, but you can still tell it’s a crazy anthem, kind of like his personal introspective/sorta political “Man in the Mirror” (and, of course, he cribs MJ’s classic “Wanna Be Startin’ Something” ad-lib). Plus, you can’t really help being emotional on a Bon Iver sample. Two former FADER cover stars! Also, Gil Scott-Heron at the end (thanks Schnipper).

Today’s what the fuck is brought to you by Kanye West. Wait; maybe Justin Vernon.
In an attempt to span all genres and cover all musical realms, West brought Justin Vernon of Bon Iver to collaborate on his forthcoming album. Here, he somehow convinced Vernon it was okay to take “Woods”, a sentimental sleeper from a Bon Iver EP, (which later became “Still” for Volcano Choir, Vernon’s other act), and tarnish its subtly and and desperation by throwing on a Jersey Shore of a bass and an all too familiar West flow.
I don’t know who to be more disappointed in more; oh wait, yes I do. Since we all know that Kanye is a Bonnaroo disaster of a man, I’ll wag a finger at Vernon. While I thought his intention of bringing back the embryo of “Woods” on “Still” was a tad odd, the latter didn’t compromise the loneliness of the song. Now, however, it seems that the man who can marinate you with his falsetto can also overcook you with repetition; and compromise.
Whoa. I just cared way too much about that.
