Ceci Bastida, “Have You Heard (SarrasDeli Remix)” MP3

November 18, 2010

We're a couple episodes deep into the final season of our very favorite television drama, Friday Night Lights. The show picked up in late east Texas summer. Eric and Tami Taylor are steel anchors, hanging together across the tracks at East Dillon High, but a lot of our favorite characters are missing in action: Landry went to Rice, Julie left for Austin. Tim Riggins is still in jail, breaking our hearts.

We don't mind the new characters that have rounded out the jilted, zombie life of FNL. But as we look towards our last days together, we feel increasingly hindsight-annoyed that the show has never featured Mexican characters, music, culture. Have ya'll ever been in small town Texas? Yes people are listening to high school football gossip and probably a lot of Tea Party chatter (yikes!), but they're also listening to Banda and eating better salsas than you can imagine, a luxury of rural life afforded by one our nations best and newest culture clusters. We think Jess, the empathetic mix tape making barbecue joint heiress on Friday Night Lights, would love this new mix of "Have you Heard" off Ceci Bastida's new album Veo La Marea. It's a flag-core ready track, the first with some English singing that we've heard from the petite Tijuana born/Lilith Fair seasoned superstar. Sounds like a sultry, assured new-American intermission at a rodeo full of Wrangler hotties. Ceci's album dropped stateside last week.
