Video: Young Minds, “Ghosting”

February 17, 2011

It’s weird thinking about love. There’s only image this morning: Tyler, the Creator riding Jimmy Fallon’s back, Jimmy in a lopsided Supreme cap, the Ring girl lurking behind. Trying to write around it is hard, to forcibly postpone jumping someone’s shoulders and make yourself feel heartbroken because Young Minds sounds that way, and this should be his post. So we’ve watched the “Ghosting” video quite a lot, to burn it in our brains on its own terms. There’s something about the way the drums roll in, just past a minute in. When he sings “last year’s ghost” it's last year’s girl, the type of grounding thoughts you can’t repress. Let’s call her the drum beat. The quick break before the full pattern hits (those full-on bad breakup vibes) is all kick drum, there’s no upside, like they’re coming in reluctantly or barely leaking in, and then it hits all at once and there’s hats and snares, his voice and guitar and everything is together again and bigger and it's just better than before. The video is released on Look, but the song and four others are available free as the Imago Demos.
