Every time we blog about Dam Mantle we talk about how he is an expert at cramming all sorts of weird sounds into a constant stutter that somehow manages to sound simultaneously clipped and smooth. Like it's just slightly off. On a song by song basis, it's extremely listenable so we assumed that an entire album's worth would get a little stressful. Same vibe as when it's raining and sunny at the same time—it just feels kind of weird, you know? But that's not the case here. Instead the record works as a mission statement for the whole Dam Mantle vibe, mini movements within movements within movements blown out into one massive whole piece. This is probably what surfing a massive (first) wave (sorry sorry) feels like. First Wave is out March 8th on Wichita.
