One of the coolest things about listening to Battles’ Gloss Drop is how it makes you feel crazily smart without being boring. It may be full of technical fireworks. Lots of stop-start instrumental moments and wild time signatures and sounds that we imagine can only be made by moving your fingers around a guitar really quickly and with supreme confidence. But it's also easy. There's not a moment where we're like, Gah what the hell, this sounds like what being on a jerky subway train feels like—it's just clean weirdness.
