Every week, Amber Bravo chooses one thing to totally obsess over on eBay. This week she explores the sheer pleasure of "crochet."

It's almost summer, and even though the sheer maxi skirt craze that counter-intuitively became a seasonal trend during the winter months seems like it should be at the height of its glory, the truth is, there's a desire for a bit more substance than sheer solid rayon. Keeping with the ’90s/’70s revival that's been a leitmotif in many of the spring/summer collections, vintage crochet has been popping up pretty regularly on my go-to ebay sellers. As you can see in the above image, the rules that apply to the sheer maxi skirt also apply to the crochet sheath (i.e. wear with a contrasting tap short and full-coverage bra underneath). If white is a little too virginal/bridal for you, there is a slew of darker, stranger options to be found. The best of which are some throw-back rafia pieces which remind me of Bless' rad rafia pantaloons (pictured below and available at Creatures of Comfort).

Of course, the best way to wear crochet without looking costumey is to get the right shoes. Ebay sellers are obviously HUGE supporters of Jeffrey Campbell, which I also like, but JC platforms and crochet err dangerously into retro territory. As with anything, wearing crochet is an exercise in moderation—gotta keep the macrame at bay.
