Unknown Mortal Orchestra Would Shred Your House Party

June 21, 2011

This live-capture (via Yourtstrul.ly) of Unknown Mortal Orchestra's super-fetch "How Can You Luv Me," taken at San Francisco's Different Fur studios in April, sounds a little like the band's being recorded through a wall. This isn't a bad thing—feels something like being at a party, sharing a cigarette with your very best friend in the eye-of-the-storm while a band parties hard in the next room. UMO are superb live though. If you go see them this summer, it's a good idea to stand close where you can feel the drums and fuzz and see Ruban Nielson's insane (and new, not in the video) neck tattoo. UMO's self-titled album is out today on Fat Possum. You can stream the whole thing here. Bassist Jacob Portrait's other band, Blouse, has a single out on Sub Pop, too. It's not half bad.
