Video: John Maus “Head for the Country”

It's hard not to feel like you're not in the middle of nowhere in wintertime rural Minnesota, which is where John Maus lives and where the video for "Head for the Country" was shot. There, isolation is combated through bursts of electric-blue beams of communication. Maus stays busy watching old Sci-Fi movies and taking long walks in bad snow shoes. This is where a human being finds himself in the locker, he repeats. Hard to say if "the country" is the reprieve or cause for deeper loneliness. Maus' new album We Must Become the Pitiless Sensors of Oursleves is out June 28th on Upset the Rhythm (UK) and Ribbon Music (US). Tour dates below.
