Frenchie’s Bringing Gangsta Back Mixtape

June 27, 2011

Despite Gucci's exclusionary taunts on "Volume"—Brick Squad movement and no you're not a part of it—the Brick Squad roster has swelled to immeasurable numbers in the years since. It's so large, in fact, that it seems like one or more of their affiliates drops a new mixtape every weekend. Frenchie, Brick Squad OG and the best candidate to play KRS-One in a biopic, continues the streak with Bringing Gangsta Back. Frenchie is consistently the odd man out in Brick Squad, the only core member to not have a guest spot on any Gucci Mane album or Flockaveli. Maybe that's because of his show stealing capacity when he slips into his breathless and bug eyed double time, as he does on the crew-wide posse cut "2 Deep" (originally from Waka's Duflocka Rant, though it reappears here). Of course Bringing Gangsta Back is only about as consistent as any of these second string Brick Squad tape, which is to say not very, but consistency is only a burden to old media. Filter out the duds, add the rest to your 1017 playlist and commence with the dread shaking. Yeeeeeee.
