Today, the LA boy/girl duo Nguzunguzu released their new Times Up EP on just-born American freak disco label Fade to Mind. Download it on iTunes for less than your lunch money, and for no dollars at all, enjoy the cocktail of big-atmosphere spa sounds Nguzunguzu mixed to celebrate the release. It opens with burnt, brown sugar hospitality, as Beyonce begs and promises, Come take my hand/ I won't let you go/ I will love you so deeply over AraabMuzik's "Free Spirit." Later, the chipmunk despair of Jodie's "Moments in Heartbreak (LOL Boys Edit)" bleeds into the beefy stutters of their remix of Jhene Aiko’s hushed barb "Stranger." The emotional highs and dips in the mix are as complex as its sounds (water fountain dribbles, some ocarina, the buzz of a robot licking your ear). Taken together, it's like falling asleep in the nail shop—a heady, heated natural high. Nguzunguzu are on tour with Gang Gang Dance for the rest of the summer.
