Video: Bon Iver, “Holocene”

August 18, 2011

I'm flying to Iceland in a couple weeks. The plan is to rent a small car and then ride it without any accidents in a circle around the entire nation, which is the size of Virginia. I'm bringing a good winter sleeping bag but no fuel for campsite cooking, because somebody told me that in Iceland they sell magic one-meal, self-starting stoves. That's very hard to believe, but I guess we'll see what happens. Los Angeles via Australia director Nabil shot this clip for "Holocene," a song about feeling small in the presence of bigger-than-human magnificence, in Iceland. It stars a kid wearing a probably-indestructible hoodie made from something like Alpaca wool, and one geological wonder-vista after another. Tickets to Iceland are just 600 bucks, just saying. Nabil recommends these folks as travel guides.
