In a recent interview on Opening Ceremony’s blog, Shayne (founding member of clothing empire Hood By Air) and Venus (founding member of DJ syndicate GHE20 G0TH1K) talked about merging their crews entirely and erasing the creative boundaries that separate fashion from music:
Shayne Oliver: GHE20 G0TH1K and HOOD BY AIR are both under one name, Clear, Inc.
Venus X: Having one umbrella gives us more flexibility. The GHE20 G0TH1K party is going to continue as long as there’s space for it, but we want to make our music, have a band, and continue Hood by Air—and mobilize everything through what we’ve built over the past two years. The sound of the party became the style of the clothes, and the style of the clothes informs the future sound of the party. It’s hard to break everything apart.
The pair DJ together all the time, but this new video for Hood by Air’s latest collection is the best proof of their creative synergy as it relates to fashion. Directed by Leilah Weinraub for Sang BLEU, the music is sexy, and the clothes are similar: darkly cut, Michael Alig-type club gear done in angelic whites that will look good under black lights.
