The cool thing about Pusha T playing in Kanyeland and Malice playing in Godland is that it finally frees Pharrell up to start lacing other rappers—actual rappers—with his weirder productions. The uncool thing is that those other rappers aren’t ever Roscoe P. Coldchain, but that’s a complaint for another blog post. Young Comptonite or Comptonian Buddy isn’t exactly the most distinctive or instantly inspiring rapper to spit on a Neptunes beat, but he’s a serviceable vehicle for their oddities. And maybe over time he can grow into something equally fascinating.
