Stream: Oneohtrix Point Never's Album Replica

photographer Emily Berl

I've found it's hard to work while listening to Replica, Dan Lopatin's new album as Oneohtrix Point Never. Replica is a roving electronic song cycle built in part from TV advertisement samples, and you'd think its drone would make fine, stimulating background music. But the album is tense and an event worthy of the foreground. What Lopatin has made, from commercial detritus and some piano, are satisfying and serious mantras. Across the record, these phrases share a level headed, weird optimism. They feel like a new religion, or at least something to look forward to. Stream the entire album and watch the Cola Wars video for "Sleep Dealer," below.
