Stream: Pinemarten, “Don’t Let Me Be Denied”

November 02, 2011

Last time I mentioned Pinemarten, writing about his brilliant instrumental cover of Carly Simon's "Coming Around Again," I said the melody was "the closest he’s ever been to fitting vocal parts over his synth work." I thought he must be a terrible singer, and that was why he replaced the song's lyrics with a synth line. But he sings on "Don't Let Me Be Denied," and well! The beat still sounds like an arcade console rendition of a purple Miami Beach convertible, but his actual human voice transforms things for the better. Instead of making the soundtrack inside the machine, "Don't Let Me Be Denied" tells the story of the kid obsessed with playing it. Pinemarten's debut full-length If You Thought There Was Any Doubt comes out November 28th via his Bandcamp.
