The New Pants: Bedwin & the Heartbreakers’ Fresh Fit

Whose life doesn’t have a clear timeline of past pants? We’ve all tried so many fits and made so many mistakes. My history is a mess, brief interludes with wide-ass JNCOs and frayed bellbottoms. I do not miss the boot cut even though I’ve heard some people say it’s prime for a comeback. Not cool. These days, I stick to a tailored fit, straight down my leg from top to bottom. Keep it simple.

The Julien pant, from Japanese brand Bedwin & the Heartbreakers, is perfect for my rotation. It’s slim and straight, but just subversively short enough to be interesting. It doesn’t represent one particular era, but rather is a mishmash of many—graceful and tapered like a ’60s cigarette pant, loose in the thighs like an ode to the casual early ’90s and cropped just like Thom Browne’s suits from the mid-’00s. Hindsight is always 20/20, but the Julien seems fit for any era.
