Video: Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, “Tsukema Tsukeru”

December 08, 2011

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, teen fashion blogger turned singer, of "Pon Pon Pon" fame, released her second video this week. "Tsukema Tsukeru" is an exultation of fake eyelashes, of which she has her own brand. It’s the magic in a type of eyelash/ My confidence changes, the way I see the world changes, she sings (as translated here). I wonder if I’ll still see the same sky. "Tsukema Tsukeru" is the title track of her new single, out January 11th and produced again by the inimitable Yasutaka Nakata, whose expectedly great album for Perfume, JPN, came out only a week and a half ago. In the first part of the video, Kyary presides as queen over a sweetly apocalyptic wonderland, upstaged from her throne by two dancing men in lion suits. Then the "lions" pull down their masks over their crotches, revealing them to really be foxes in disguise wearing single-strap pink vinyl bras. Kyary gets hit by lightning and dances to the front in a changed outfit, which prominently features enormous lopsided eyelashes underlining her boobs. But possibly the greatest blessing of all: Kyary makes her American live debut tomorrow night in Los Angeles.
