DJ Burn One has a nose for what’s next. He hosted a few mixtapes with your favorite rappers right before they were big, like Gucci Mane’s Chicken Talk and Young Dro’s Future Legends series. He was also one of the first DJs with a noteworthy online presence and produced the entirety of Starlito’s now-classic album Renaissance Gangster. His presence on hip hop’s cutting edge is particularly interesting because his production style is decidedly retro, favoring relaxed, comfort-food, country rap tunes.
Burn One’s latest tape, which you can download below, is a collection of beautifully constructed instrumentals from his recent projects, including beats for Lito, Freddie Gibbs and LE$. Of particular note is his beat for ASAP Rocky, “Roll One Up,” which was an easy highlight of Rocky’s debut LIVELOVEASAP.
