Video: Trailer Trash Tracys, “Engelhardt’s Arizona”

It's easy to sound old any time you start anything with, "When I was a kid and MTV actually played music videos..." but whatever: When I was a kid and MTV actually played music videos, I didn't have MTV, so I was actually pretty bummed I was missing out on so many music videos. I would go to my neighbor's house and we would binge watch MTV with a tape recorder next to the TV, recording the videos so we could listen to the songs later. Weirdly, that meant there were a lot of tapes with White Zombie immediately followed by Janet and Michael Jackson's "Scream." Not really sure what the programming logic was there, or if any existed. The point is, it was easy to be exposed to a huge range of weird major label stuff in a relatively short period of time. This Trailer Trash Tracys video looks like any number of early-’90s alternative videos, and it even has a somewhat similar sound, except not quite. It's unsettling, too, mostly because of the frantic guitar, and how it takes a bit for the track to really cohere. Not really a nostalgia grab as much as a jittery, uncomfortable look at an alternate future.
