Last month, Los Angeles-raised and Minneapolis-based rapper I Self Devine released a mixtape entitled LA State of Mind. It was the first of a series of four free mixtapes the artist is releasing in the lead-up to the release of his official full-length, The Sounds of Low Class America, which drops in May. The second tape in the series, The Upliftment Struggle, was just released, and it's another worthwhile effort from one of hip hops more slept-on MCs. Very few artists who approach this style of underground rap manage to do so with such humanity and personality. For a sneak peak at the artist's daily life, watch the above video shot at a family dinner. You might say it's the real "Rappers Doing Normal Shit", as Devine explains the impetus behind recording the project and its importance to him. There are also some nice shots of really delicious-looking food.
