Interview: Perfume Genius

Perfume Genius’s new album sounds like the leaving behind of emotional immaturity, a long bittersweet sigh about finally being grownup enough to let yourself experience actual intimacy. It couldn't have been easy to write this record, a post-Adele exercise in putting your heart on your sleeve that could pay off with Grammy acclaim or just make us all cry. Realest line from the first single? I wish I grew up the second I held you in my arms. In this interview, Perfume Genius' Mike Hadreas tells us he wrote Put Your Back N 2 It while falling in love with a boy. And guess what? They're celebrating their anniversary today! That makes us feel optimistic this Valentine's Day. Put Your Back N 2 It is out February 21st on Matador Records.
