The beauty of “His Song” by Luke Roberts is that it’s unassuming. It’s heavy, for sure, but it also just exists as a loping folk jam about (maybe?) God and loss and confusion with a fractured guitar solo. It’s not trying to be anything more than it is, and that’s the reason it might get overlooked, but it’s also the reason that it is so great. “His Song” comes from Roberts’ The Iron Gates at Throop and Newport, which has a very pink cover. It’s out March 20th on Thrill Jockey.
