Sufjan Stevens, "Futile Devices (Shigeto Remix)" MP3

Well this is fairly unexpected. Shigeto, whose mini-LP, Lineage, was released last month on Ghostly, has remixed Sufjan Stevens’ 2010 song "Futile Devices." Which is an interesting decision for any number of reasons—Sufjan Stevens, 2010, etc.—but one so naturally executed it'd be totally missing the point to second-guess. The remix is both a lovely extension of Shigeto's recent, super-contemplative style, driven by Sufjan's very Lineage-appropriate harp, and, thanks to Shigeto's precise drum programming and added electonics, a pretty sizable step beyond the original. It's deeply reflective, the type of song you'd sit alone on a bench to, looking back at yourself with just enough distance it doesn't hurt too bad.
