Kenzo’s Parisian B-girls

March 05, 2012

We knew that when Opening Ceremony was exported to Paris to reinvigorate French fashion house Kenzo that they'd be bringing some of their New York swagger with them, but who knew, two seasons in, that their shit could be this cool? Who even knew that Paris had room for this kind of around-the-way-girl type of charm? It's easy to romanticize 1980s flash, to reference the colors and shapes of that flagrant era, but Humberto Leon and Carol Lim do it with class and modernity. The Kenzo look has the perfect slouch, full-bloom pleated skirts matched with oversized bomber jackets, fur collars and shiny brass buttons. Clothes for watching a basketball game or a fancy meal, and red lips and slicked back hair that are one part Sade, one part Robert Palmer.
