A Killa Kyleon and Mouse collaborative mixtape is the kind of project that gets dreamt up by fans and never materializes. Except in this case, a collaboration really happened, and the tape is pretty much great from beginning to end. Mouse remains one of the more underrated beatmakers in hip-hop, despite being the one-man-band behind Trill Entertainment's peak era in the late 2000s. It's hard to think of a precedent for his style in the genre, releasing music that was popular despite sounding unlike anything else around it. Killa Kyleon, meanwhile, has a dexterous rap style, and has steadily released great music since Houston first came to national prominence almost a decade ago. Together, they make Welcome to the Fish Fry an engaging listen. Kyleon sounds enlivened, and Mouse's beats are a perfect balance between the weird, the pop and the street.
