Next week, the eclectic Baltimore producer Co La will release a new EP, Soft Power Memento. Standout track "Love Nest" opens with summery wafts of trumpet before bouncing the notes through Co La's signature percussion palate, where wooden sounds always fit sublimely alongside weird electric squeaks. Sometimes the beat jolts and nearly stumbles, like a waiter uneasily balancing an overloaded tray, but Co La never lets it fall off course, ultimately guiding "Love Nest" back to the same jazzy sounds as its beginning. Soft Power Memento comes out June 5th via NNA Tapes (on cassette) and Hands in the Dark (on CD).
