My Great Ghost’s producer Trevor Gureckis and vocalist Drew Smith met while working for FADER #79 icon Philip Glass. Gureckis was Glass' musical assistant while Smith worked in his publishing company, and the pair initially collaborated on a pop song for a film score Gureckis was arranging. On "Photograph," you can hear Glass' influence creeping in with the repetition of a slightly unsettling accordion tone, but the lush vocals, which flicker on and off like camera flashbulbs, and thunderous percussive climax are far from minimalist. My Great Ghost will release their eponymous debut EP on July 10th, and they'll appear on the Beck-curated Philip Glass Remix LP, coming soon on Orange Mountain Music.
