Cold Showers, “Double Life” MP3

It's not like The Cars' "Double Life" is the most upbeat song ever, but it's definitely more upbeat than this Cold Showers cover (which, it should be noted, features backing vocals from Vivian Girls' Katy Goodman). That's fine though. Although their output is relatively limited, Cold Showers expertly create a world of California gloom—with shadows and dark corners and a weird layer of grime just underneath the surface of everything. It folds in enough unsettling Los Angeles weirdness that we could call it Lynchian, but when a gorgeous guitar solo arcs across the end of the track, it becomes pretty clear that unlike David Lynch, Cold Showers aren't about keeping you guessing, there's clarity here too. Cold Showers' "Decay" 7-inch is out today on Art Fag. Watch for their debut album, out this fall on Dais, and in the meantime, catch them at one of the dates below.
