At Home With: Kilo Kish

June 28, 2012

Lakisha Robinson bka Kilo Kish talks like she talk-raps, in a cushiony whisper. When she started, she approached recording casually, encouraged by her onetime roommate Smash Simmons. Having just completed a degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she studied textile design, the Orlando-native now lives alone in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. (The landlord is hoping she'll be willing to share it with a former tenant for the summer.) Her apartment's half-empty, brightened up with to-do lists, almost-finished projects and "sparkly shit." Watch Kish talk about her first year making music from underneath a pile of blankets above, and download her debut EP Homeschool here. Though she says she's still figuring out next steps, according to a press release Kish is collaborating with Frank Ocean and releasing an LP produced entirely by The Internet, Sick Sad World, later this year. She tours the east coast with The Internet this August as well, see a full schedule of dates below.
