Alex Da Corte Makes Video with Music from Nate Donmoyer of Passion Pit

July 30, 2012

Alex Da Corte is a visual artist who works through pop themes, though it's anyone's guess what kind of pop culture is going to interest him next—he criss crosses seamlessly between Simpsons-style donut sculptures to cardboard cut-outs of Shaquille O'Neal with Mickey Mouse ears to a photo series of boys in their underwear drinking Coca-Cola and orange soda. His latest is a collaboration with a pop musician, Nate Donmoyer of Passion Pit, who also records under the moniker Shuttle Music and supplied a heady soundtrack of droning noise for a staged video of a man sucking blood (?) from a pear (?) and then hitting himself in the face with a butt of a knife. It's beautiful, slow, weird and maybe even a little frightening, but true to form, Da Corte gives it pop pizzazz with a purple background and a bright pink and green watermelon.
