Video: Unicorn Kid, “Need U”

August 03, 2012

Unicorn Kid, the high-octane Scottish producer, filmed "Need U" in Chinatown as if the camera was spun 180° on a first-person video game, so the protagonist's dazed face always stays front and center, encircled by fluorescent anime figures, peace symbols and mazes. Though framed as a dream sequence, the video also works as a sort of analogy for everyday computer users, whose perpetually frozen expressions might be messing with their autonomic nervous systems (see also: Kyle McDonald's controversial hacker artwork People Staring at Computers). Unicorn Kid's full-length debut is planned for later this year on 3 Beat.
