Staff Selects Playlist: Nu Sensae’s Post-Grunge Punk

August 06, 2012

Every week, a different FADER editor compiles a playlist to highlight a new release and give you a guide to that artist’s web of influences and peers. These Staff Selects live in our Spotify app, alongside GEN Fs from our archives and playlists for each issue. This week, it's Alex Frank on Nu Sensae.

Vancouver's Nu Sensae are an amazing, screaming three-piece that come from a long line of punk bands like Godheadsilo and Nirvana that apexed in Pacific Northwest cities like Olympia and Seattle. They've got a speedy, fast-drum simplicity that's inspired by the harder edges of Alternative Nation '90s culture and the tougher, rougher sides of grunge in groups like Dinosaur Jr. and The Frumpies. Their new album, Sundowning, comes out August 7th on Suicide Squeeze, and here we trace its wonderful roots back to grunge and riot grrrl superstars like Courtney Love, Tobi Vail, Kat Bjelland and Kurt Cobain. Jump straight to the playlist here, or listen in The FADER Spotify app.
