Cop A Look: Minimalism

August 30, 2012

In fashion, minimalism as a concept really emerged in the 1990s, following the sloppy grunge aesthetic of the early part of the decade and the vibrant colors, spandex and shoulder pads that shook up the 1980s. Designers like Calvin Klein and Jil Sander were at the forefront of cleansing the palette, with pieces that embraced simplicity and encouraged innovation in fit over pattern and ostentation. Neutral colors, clean and simple shifts, traditional skirt suits and, naturally, your every day basic tee became the coolest things in the world. With her stick-straight hair and spaghetti-strap dresses, Kate Moss came to define the era (just as she had with grunge). Minimalism has had a resurgence recently, popping up on the Paris runways at places like Céline, and here, we take a look at how you can recreate the look on the cheap today.
