Every week a different FADER staff member will pick a clothing item or accessory that he or she has lately been spending a lot of time with—or would like to—and write a little love letter to it. We would’ve done a column on who we’re dating but that seemed a little bit much. This week Alex talks about his Randolph Engineering P3 Sunglasses.
I'm almost never satisfied, but I've been especially bummed by the the curse of circular frame sunglasses, which are a genius idea in theory, but a look that no one has seemed to master since John Lennon. I'm not talking the more subtle, softly rounded shapes that companies like Illesteva tastefully offer up as a compromise, I'm talking the full monty: two circles simply conjoined by a wire frame. They're often too small, making you look like a dweeb, or too big a la Mary Kate Olsen, or too chintzy with holographic peace signs on the lenses, like the pairs handed out for free at Bar and Bat Mitzvahs.
Thank the lord that Randolph Engineering has finally figured out the equation. Their P3 frame is quite literally the perfect pair of circular glasses, a size that happily covers up the breadth of my eye area without seeming the slightest bit oversized. They come in silver chrome or shiny gold. I picked gold to highlight how proud I am of discovering the ideal roundies. Now all I need is the perfect apartment, and life will be exactly as it should be.
