Video: ESP, “627”

September 20, 2012

ESP is the Los Angeles-based, Japanese-American synth-pop trio of siblings Aska and Seiya Matsumiya and Bobby Evans. Their fascination with extra-sensory perception could be said to manifest itself in the dreamy amalgam of Japanese-accented vocals, motorik pulses and layered electronics that we hear on their recent, self-titled EP, but it really comes to the fore on this sumptuously photographed video for "627." Directed by Chris Coats with some highly imaginative costume work from Simon Haas, it depicts the band convening with three, yeti-like spirit-animals by way of a magical crystal. For an equally kaleidoscopic experience, check out their Yellow Magic Orchestra-inspired video for "Serenade", and grab a copy of ESP via Bandcamp.
