Stream: Eola X The Beatles

October 02, 2012

Eola is the solo moniker of Edwin White, the New York half of shapeshifting brother duo Tonstartssbandht, whose taste for hypnotic tape loops and endless psych-rock burners can occasionally give way to pockets of resonant, a cappella harmonizing. These sung passages happen rarely enough to always feel really special when they do, which is why finding out that Eola recorded these two Beatles covers felt way more exciting than it might have otherwise (and it certainly doesn't hurt that he got artist Jason Harvey to riff on the cover of Meet The Beatles! for the occasion). "She Loves You" and "And I Love Her" are sides one and two of a digital seven-inch that Arbutus Records is dropping in advance of its CMJ showcase at Brooklyn's Death By Audio this month, which will double as the Montreal imprint's 3-year anniversary party. Expect Doldrums, TOPS, Blue Hawaii, Majical Cloudz and Eola himself to be in attendance, and learn more about the showcase here.
