Mountains, “Living Lens” MP3

Mixing electronics with organic sounds is nothing new, but when it's done well, it can sound like a revelation. Mountains—Brendon Anderegg and Koen Holtkamp—do this expertly, stacking glittering tones on top of tense drone, allowing the sounds to reach their natural conclusion. "Living Lens," and by extension all of Mountains' music, doesn't necessarily ever reach an end, instead it sort of just fades away. Take it as weird music dudes letting things reach their logical ending, or take it as some sort of commentary on life cycles in nature, because really, with a name like Mountains and a sound that steadily reaches for the epic scale of, well, a mountain, you can't not think about nature. However you choose to listen to it, "Living Lens" is a gorgeous piece of music. Centralia is out January 21st on Thrill Jockey.
