Stream Function's Incubation Album

Function's Dave Sumner is perhaps best known as one of the club music heavyweights behind The Sandwell District, the short-lived but mythic NY minimal techno label and collective that morphed into an actual "band" for a moment with 2010's excellent Feed Forward LP, before going on to announce it was shuttering its doors early last year. Dave Sumner has since relocated to Berlin, and has an album coming out today on Berghain's in-house label Ostgut Ton. From its vistas of near-beatless ambience to its arpeggiated kraut-scapes and squelching acid tangents, Incubation feels less like an exercise in restraint and austerity than an artist using very simple building blocks to build something full and emotionally engrossing.
