Stream Rachel Zeffira’s The Deserters LP

March 04, 2013

Rachel Zeffira—a classically trained, Italian-Canadian singer whose career took an unexpected, distinctly non-opera turn last year when she joined forces with Faris Badwan of The Horrors to become the ’60s-throwback group Cat's Eyes—now makes her solo debut with The Deserters LP. Partly recorded at Abbey Road Studios, and showcasing a style of orchestral but subtle, baroque pop that often evokes the quiet world of Nick Drake, The Deserters is impressively refined and confident for an artist seemingly navigating this territory for the first time. "I wanted to write every note and trust myself to produce it on my own," she said over email. Stream it all below, followed by two music videos directed by Yuval Hen. Rachel Zeffira's The Deserters comes out March 12th via Paper Bag Records, and it's up for preorder now.
