By the Numbers: Jai Paul's Leaked Demos

In By the Numbers, FADER looks at a big record release and breaks it down in basic digits. This week, we tackle Jai Paul's leaked demos/mixtape/album that mysteriously appeared Saturday night, then vanished. The story is far from over. Yesterday Jai Paul tweeted, "This is not my debut album. Please don’t buy. Statement to follow later," though he's yet to comment again, and his record label XL Recordings has been completely silent. Conspiracy theories abound: a stolen laptop, perhaps, or the willful leak of a disgruntled artist, or a very sly promo stunt. In any case we know this: demos or not, that was 40 of the best minutes of music we've heard in a while.
